## Overview

NICE HMS supports two categories of doctors:

| Type | Description | Software Access |
|------|------------|----------------|
| **In-house / Visiting Doctors** | Work on hospital premises (full-time or part-time) | Optional |
| **Referring Doctors** | Refer patients but don't work at your facility | No (referral tracking only) |

This guide covers in-house and visiting doctors.

## How to Convert a User to a Doctor

Only an Admin can perform this. The user must already exist in the system.

1. **Log in** as Admin.
2. From the sidebar, click **Admin**.
3. Under the **Doctor** section, click **New Doctor From User**.
4. Select the existing user from the list.
5. Fill in the doctor's professional details:
   - **Specialty** — e.g., Cardiology, Orthopedics, General Medicine
   - **Qualification** — e.g., MBBS, MD, DM
   - **Registration number** — Medical council registration
   - **Consultation fees** — If applicable
6. Submit.

**Important:** The name entered in the doctor's profile appears on printed prescriptions. Ensure it is correct.

## Managing Doctors Without Software Access

For visiting doctors who don't need to log in:
1. Create a user profile for them (as above).
2. Set their status to **Inactive**.
3. Their name will still appear in doctor lists for prescriptions and referrals, but they won't consume a billable user seat.

## Doctor-Specific Features

Once set up as a doctor, the user can:
- View **My Patients** from the sidebar
- Create and manage **prescriptions**
- Access **OPD** and **IPD** patient lists
- Use **CDSS AI** features (if enabled) for clinical decision support
- Configure their personal **letter pad header** for printed prescriptions

## Referring Doctors

Referring doctors are tracked separately. They do not need user accounts. You can manage them from the **Admin > Referring Doctors** section for referral tracking and revenue reporting.

## FAQ

**Q: Can I change a doctor's specialty later?**
A: Yes. Edit the doctor's profile from Admin > Doctors.

**Q: Do visiting doctors count toward my user limit?**
A: Only if their status is Active. Mark them Inactive to exclude from billing.
